AMTE-TX President’s Council Scholarship

As we have just celebrated our 10th Anniversary of AMTE-TX, we are excited to announce the establishment of the President’s Council Scholarship. This scholarship supports membership dues in both AMTE-TX and AMTE for one year.  AMTE-TX will award this scholarship during the annual Fall Conference to

  • one early career faculty member and
  • one graduate student each year.

These scholarships are designed to offer support for membership in these organizations, but also encourages service in the organization. Recipients will be required to volunteer their service through committee membership, leadership, review of conference presentations, or other applicable service during that designated year.

To qualify, an applicant must be a graduate student in mathematics education (or related field) OR must be in an entry-level position (0 to 3 years) or in a new position in Texas (0 to 3 years) in the field of mathematics teacher education, and an attendee of the 2019 Fall Conference.

To apply for this scholarship, those interested should submit:

  • One-page letter of application, outlining how this scholarship could support participation in both AMTE-TX and AMTE. Describe the projected service opportunities that might be of interest and how these can benefit the applicant as an early career faculty or graduate student.
  • Two letters of recommendation, with at least one of these from a current member of AMTE-TX. For graduate students, at least one must be from a faculty advisor, providing details about status in the program. (The graduate student recipient must be a graduate student during the year of the award.)

The 2019 Recipients of this Scholarship will have the opportunity for mentorship by members of the President’s Council (all past Presidents of AMTE-TX) and will be required to attend the 2020 Fall Conference to share service experiences from the previous year.

Applications should be submitted through email to Dr. Sandi Cooper at Sandra_Cooper@baylor.edu by June 7, 2019.
